Summerville South Carolina is about 30 mins north of the city of Charleston, and offers a lot in the way of affordable housing options. Most of the Charleston regions industrial and manufacturing jobs are in the Summerville, and North Charleston area so many people who work for these large corporations prefer to live in these communities. Housing is on average about $100,000 cheaper than the other popular suburban communities such as Mt Pleasant or James Island. Summerville is home to two country club communities: Pine Forest & Legend Oaks, with one other non-country club golf communityWescott Plantation.Â
North Charleston is the largest suburb in the tri-county area and is approximately 20 mins from downtown, and 40 from the beaches. All depending on traffic. The most congested of all the communities North Charleston’s most popular communities are: Park Circle, Coosaw Creek Country Club, Refuge Whitehall, Ashborough East, and Cedar Grove. Â
The other common more affordable “outer” communities of the Berkley & Dorchester counties area: Goose Creek, Hanahan, Awedaw, Wando, McClellanville, and Hollywood. All these communities have one thing in common, they are over 30 mins from town or the next big town, and not close to downtown or the beaches. Thus houses are also far more affordable, and in many cases you’ll also find more land and larger lot sizes.
